Staff benefits and wellbeing update

02 Feb 2022

Join ALLOUT, save on campus, discounts and cancer and heart health awareness and a volunteering opportunity at The Whitworth.

LGBT+ History Month

February is LGBT+ History Month, so it’s a great time to learn more about ALLOUT, our LGBT+ Staff Network Group. The group is always keen to welcome new members and would especially like to learn how they can support LGBT+ people of faith, colour, LGBT+ disabled staff and all other communities.

If you are now back on campus, did you know that the award-winning food market has reopened in University Place. The Market is open Monday to Friday, from 9am to 3pm.  Staff, students and visitors can choose from a selection of authentic, fresh Vietnamese, Thai, American, Malaysian, Ethiopian and vegan dishes alongside sweet treats. You can also browse the ‘There is a Light That Never Goes Out’ photography exhibition showcasing Manchester’s music history. You can use your Staff ID card to save 10% on campus with FoodinAdvance

The regular webinar series on topical wellbeing and health topics returns in February. For World Cancer Day on Friday, 4 February we are hosting a cancer awareness webinar, discussing different forms of cancer, risk factors, screening and positive actions to reduce cancer risk.

Another free ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Complementary Therapies (15 wks) will be starting at the White Rose Beauty college in Manchester Piccadilly. Classes are Tuesdays, 6pm-9pm (enrolment in-centre on 08.02.2022). Course commences the following Tuesday.

February is also Healthy Heart Month so we are hosting a webinar on Wednesday, 16 February all about heart health, including the steps you can take to make a positive difference to your own cardiovascular health. There are now a number of defibrillators or Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at various points across the University. To find out where have a look at the Interactive Campus Map. For more information on each individual defibrillator (such as exact location) double click on the icon.

The British Heart Foundation has a video showing a 10 minute exercise program that you can do from the comfort of your own home.
