Sanctuary Seeker Awareness training

29 Mar 2021

Help us make our University a welcoming and safe place for refugees and asylum seekers as a University of Sanctuary - training course on Thursday, 22 April

Our University is a University of Sanctuary, part of the City of Sanctuary UK initiative to ensure our nation is a welcoming place of safety for all.

We're working to make our University a welcoming and safe place for refugees and asylum seekers and also working with organisations that are developing further support for those seeking sanctuary.

Our commitment to this meets all three of our University core goals – world-class research, outstanding learning and student experience, and social responsibility.

To help staff help us reach our goal, the Widening Participation team are running a Sanctuary Seeker Awareness Training session on Thursday, 22 April, 1.30pm – 3pm via Zoom.

This session will give you a brief introduction and overview of the challenges and experiences faced by refugees and asylum seekers as they leave their homes looking for safety. We'll explore our own perceptions around immigration, look at the latest statistics around numbers of people claiming asylum and look at the process involved in gaining refugee status. We'll look at practical ways in which you can learn more, find out how you can support and be an advocate.
