Cardiologist appointed International Society of Hypertension President

16 Dec 2020

Professor Maciej Tomaszewski recently began his two year term as the Society's President.

Professor Maciej Tomaszewski

Maciej has been a member of the International Society of Hypertension's Scientific Council since 2014 and has previously served as Secretary of the Council and as Chair of the New Investigator Committee. Under his leadership the New Investigator Committee fostered the development of young investigators in the field of hypertension and related cardiovascular diseases.

A clinician-scientist, Maciej is Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences. He is also a Consultant Physician at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Maciej is also Chief Investigator on OUTREACH, a clinical trial that is investigating the effect of medication reviews on blood pressure control in patients with hypertension (high blood pressure), working with eight hospitals across the UK.

The British Heart Foundation funded study is looking at a review of prescribed medication along with analysis of a urine sample, in order to find ways to help manage hypertension and improve blood pressure.

Despite the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic this year, the research team was able to resume participant recruitment in October and are keen to invite more participants to take part in the study.

Further information

If you, or a family member/friend are interested please contact the team via e-mail: OUTREACH1@manchester.ac.uk or telephone 0161 276 5737.

Participants should be over 18, have hypertension (high blood pressure) diagnosis and have been prescribed medications. Taking part in the Study may result in lowering participants’ blood pressure and/or changes to the prescribed medication treatment. Participants will be reimbursed for their expenses.
