Take time out to thank colleagues

10 Dec 2020

Celebrate your colleagues’ hard work and commitment over the past 12 months

As 2020 draws to a close, many of us will be reflecting on this extraordinary year.

Now is the perfect time to say thank you to colleagues for their hard work and commitment over the past 12 months.

Saying thank you only takes a few minutes but the impact on colleagues can be long lasting, helping them to feel appreciated, connected and motivated.

There are two simple ways you can do this:

  • Send a University thank you ecard – it’s easy and quick to use and you can write your own personal message
  • Use the University thank you scheme - managers can show their appreciation by giving colleagues a small gift.

Note to managers

If you’re using the thank you scheme, any expenditure must be approved by the appropriate budget holder and be met from existing budgets. Remember to log any amount being given as a thank you scheme gift with i/e code 4034 (Thank You Scheme costs). Monitoring forms should be sent by Faculty Approvers once a quarter if there is any spend.  You can find out more at FAQs for managers  and you can read more about the importance of recognising and rewarding colleagues at Managers Essentials on the Staff Learning and Development StaffNet site.
