Changes to the setup of PC clusters

07 Dec 2020

IT Services have had to make some changes to the setup of all University PC cluster computers at short notice.

These changes should not affect the way you use the cluster PCs; they have been applied to some PC clusters already, and testing has been carried out on hundreds of software applications.

However, if you do find that a software application on a cluster PC is not working correctly, please contact the IT Support Centre straight away so that the issue can be dealt with as a high priority. The quickest and most effective way to do this is to make a note of the software application and the exact error message or symptom, then telephone 0161 306 5544. You can also log a request via the IT Support Portal:

If you have any activities scheduled which rely on remote access to a PC cluster, please log into a cluster PC remotely beforehand, to ensure the software application you’re using works as expected.

These recent changes only apply to computers in student PC clusters; they do not affect staff or postgraduate researchers’ University managed computers.
