Local foodbank needs your help

30 Nov 2020

Emmeline’s Pantry is a local foodbank that has launched its Christmas Appeal and needs donations more than ever.

Christmas scene

Emmeline’s Pantry is a local foodbank that has launched its Christmas Appeal and needs donations more than ever. Emmeline’s Pantry differs from other food banks in three ways:
1. They are a women only food bank.
2. They offer fresh food to ensure healthy eating.
3. They give service users a choice of food and never pre-bag. Many of these women have previously had choice taken away from them. The women and children they support have been through things that no one should ever experience - domestic abuse, domestic violence, rape, modern day slavery and trafficking.

For Christmas, each woman receives two weeks food and provisions for them and their families over Christmas, this includes everything they will need to make a special meal so that they have something special to look forward to. They will also receive a brand new pair of pyjamas and a gift set. Each child receives a pair of brand new pyjamas, eight brand new toys and wrapping paper if wanted. All items are chosen by the women themselves, so they can get what they need and what their children like.

Like many other charities, Emmeline's Pantry is currently experiencing many challenges due to the pandemic. They have seen a dramatic increase in client numbers and are providing home deliveries to those who need them.  They rely totally on donations and fundraising. One mother newly registering with Emmeline’s had already told her children that “Santa was isolating this year.” Luckily, her family will now be supported.
