Change to funding for staff Christmas social activities

24 Nov 2020

A message from Karen Heaton, Director of Human Resources

Dear colleagues

This is the time of year when staff teams begin to plan celebrations to mark Christmas and the end of the year.  It doesn’t look like we will be able to get together face-to-face this year, although I know many of you are coming up with ingenious ways of spending some social time together online.

The University usually provides £15 per member of staff to go towards funding Christmas and end of year celebrations, however we will not be making this payment available this year.  Instead the University will make a donation of £10,000 to our emergency hardship fund to give financial assistance to those of our students who need it most.

We also know from your feedback in What works? that staff are missing being with their colleagues, so we will be making some modest funding available to organise face-to-face get-togethers when we can all safely return back on campus, hopefully later in 2021.

Best wishes

Karen Heaton
