15 Apr 2020

Frequently asked questions are updated regularly

This advice is correct at the time of publication of this news article.

If you have health concerns then you should refer to the NHS website as recommended by Public Health England, however to make other queries regarding the current situation you can email coronavirus-info@manchester.ac.uk.

The following questions have been updated:

I have bought a rail or bus travel season ticket – can I get a refund?

The Government has said that commuters with rail season tickets will receive a refund if they stay at home during the coronavirus outbreak.

We regret that we are unable to respond to all individuals in a timely manner. We are working with Northern Rail to ensure that refunds are processed as quickly as possible.

We advise our staff members that require a cancellation/refund of their season ticket to post it back to Northern Rail.

When Northern Rail receive your ticket they will refunded its remaining value to The University of Manchester.

HR Services will then notify Payroll, who will arrange your refund. This process can take up to two months.

HR Services kindly ask that unless it has been longer than two months since you posted your ticket back to Northern Rail, that you refrain from requesting an update. This will help HR Services to process refunds as quickly as possible.

The rules for the Annual Season Ticket Loan Scheme state that I can only apply once a year. As I cancelled my ticket due to the current situation, will I be able to register again when things get back to normal?

Yes, due to the exceptional circumstances, you will be able to re-join the Annual Season Ticket Loan Scheme. Please make sure that you apply as soon as possible to returning to the University.  It’s likely that there will be a large number of requests to process at this point so your patience will be appreciated as applications will be treated on a first-come-first-served basis. Please email HRservices@manchester.ac.uk for further information.

  • We appreciate how important this matter is and we ask for your patience and understanding at this time. Please be assured that we are working as hard as we can to resolve all enquiries.
