James Baker, CEO of Graphene@Manchester, and David Hilton, Head of Business Development (Advanced Manufacturing) at MIDAS, Manchester’s inward investment agency, are currently in the US as part of a UK delegation visiting Seattle, US, to attend the British American Business Connections Transatlantic Aerospace Symposium which featured the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team (aka the Red Arrows).

James Baker joined global innovation experts to highlight the pioneering Manchester approach that his team have adopted at the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre to fast-track lab-to-market innovation around graphene and other disruptive advanced materials. For more insight into this ‘Manchester Model’ of innovation read On Materials or a guest blog by David Hilton: The Graphene Age; how Manchester is leading UK innovation.

The BABC Transatlantic Aerospace Symposium  was presented by the Boeing Company, in partnership with GKN Aerospace, and this premiere transatlantic industry event explored the global trends and forward-looking issues and technologies impacting on the aerospace sector regionally, nationally and “across the pond.”

The second leg of the graphene showcase in the USA saw Dr Lisa Scullion from the Graphene@Manchester team join David Hilton to attend and present at CAMX, the international composites and advanced materials expo. The Manchester duo highlighted how graphene can help to lightweight materials in automotive and aerospace industries.
