Film event to mark this year's Holocaust commemorations

23 Apr 2019

The Speak Up Stand Up campaign with Learning from the Righteous and St Peter's House are hosting an exclusive screening of 'Who Will Write Our History'

Who Will Write Our History

The film is being shown on Thursday, 2 May at 6:30pm in St Peter's House auditorium as part of this year's Yom HaShoah commemorations - the Jewish community’s annual memorial to the murder of 6 million European Jews during The Holocaust.

About the film

Days after the Warsaw Ghetto was sealed off, a secret band of journalists, scholars and community leaders, led by historian Emanuel Ringelblum and known by the code name Oyneg Shabes, vowed to defeat Nazi lies and propaganda not with guns or fists but with pen and paper. Who Will Write Our History reveals this little known but highly significant aspect of The Holocaust by mixing the writings of the Oyneg Shabes archive with new interviews, rarely seen footage and stunning dramatisations, transporting us inside the Ghetto and the lives of these courageous resistance fighters, who risked everything so that their archive would survive the war, even if they did not.

This event will encompass a multi-faith approach, exploring the common roots of all religious-based hate crime.

This is an opportunity for everyone to unite in resistance to racist hatred. Together we can Speak Up and Stand Up to violent expressions of racism and intolerance with one unified voice. What starts with myths and stereotypes can coalesce into organised expressions of hatred and, if left unchecked, result in violence-fuelled racism and ultimately genocide.

Warning: This film contains some upsetting and graphic moving and still images.

**Please note this film is NOT suitable for children under 13 years of age**

ALL 13 years + children must be accompanied by an adult, if conditions are not met entrance may be rejected.
