International Food Systems Summer School at the University of Ghana

10 Apr 2019

Deadline for applications is 5pm, Monday 15 April.

N8 AgriFood is offering 10 places for N8 AgriFood Doctoral researchers to participate in an international food systems training week in Ghana in June.

As part of its strategic partnership and engagement, N8 AgriFood, is working with IFSTAL to organise a unique international Food Systems Summer School at the University of Ghana from 16 – 21 June 2019. Doctoral students from the N8 Universities (Durham, Lancaster, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield and York) working in any aspect of agri-food are invited to apply for one of the 10 highly competitive places to participate in the event. The UK participants will join 10 Ghanaian PhD students and 10 early career colleagues from industry to co-learn and understand food systems from an international perspective.

The course focuses on enhancing participants’ food system knowledge and ‘systems thinking’ with interactive activities to help develop their skills in communicating complexity. They will learn about the challenges of food systems, tools and approaches to analyse food systems, and how change in food systems can be brought about. Speakers will include John Ingram (Oxford- Environmental Change Institute), Bob Doherty (University of York), Jonathan Rushton (University of Liverpool), Daniel Bruce Sarpong (University of Ghana) and invited local key speakers.

All training costs for participants once in Ghana are covered (including accommodation, travel and meals) and N8 AgriFood will be happy to fully support the travel costs for any successful applicants from Manchester.

  • You can find further details and an application form here.

Please contact N8 AgriFood Knowledge Exchange Fellow Dr John Atibila (john.atibila@york.ac.uk) if you have any questions about the training course, logistics, or travel arrangements.
