Changes to USS pension contributions

23 Apr 2019

Employer and member contributions have risen

If you are a member of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) you will be affected by changes to your contributions which came into effect from 1 April.

From 1 April 2019 your ordinary contribution rose from 8% to 8.8% of salary, and the University’s contribution rose from 18% to 19.5%. These changes, agreed at a national level, are intended to make sure the scheme is sustainable.

The Match

If you are paying the 1% Match contribution, you can continue to do so.  Since your March 2019 payday, this is no longer matched by 1% from the University.  You can cancel the Match at any time via My USS.

You don’t need the Match to make additional contributions; you can build a USS Investment Builder pot by signing into My USS and making regular monthly or one-off contributions.

Further information is available on the USS website.
