Staff mentoring student

Alliance MBS partner high school, Whalley Range, is looking for Maths and/or Reading Mentors who could work with Year 7-9 students once a week for an hour to improve their confidence in their maths and reading so they can fully engage with the rest of the curriculum confidentially.

Maths Mentors would focus on different maths topics following a Maths Challenge booklet. A basic level of maths is all that is required and you can have sight of the booklet before committing to the programme.  Mentoring is done in groups of 2-3 students.

Reading Mentors would listening to students reading and following a reading programme and these are on a one to one basis.

All mentors will need a DBS and this will be paid for by the School.

Mentors will be trained for the programmes which lasts approximately one hour at the School.  Mentors are able to shadow a session beforehand.

The sessions take place at Whalley Range High School and cannot be undertaken via Skype or another online method.

Maths sessions take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; and Reading Monday to Thursday.  Times are flexible to work with the Mentors schedule.

You would be matched with the same mentee each week over the period of the scheme which lasts 10-12 weeks.

Please contact Michelle Kipling if you are interested and would like to find out more or see the Maths Challenge Booklet.
