First cohort of managers become Inspiring Leaders

24 Sep 2018

Our fully revised management and leadership suite of programmes develops first 100 team leaders and starts again with 130 more – action from Staff Survey 2017

The University of Manchester

Our Inspiring Leaders Programme (ILP) – a new management and leadership development programme led by Staff Learning and Development – celebrated its first cohort with a closing event at the Whitworth Art Gallery.

Since January, more than 100 participants have completed the four modules of the programme, which have addressed setting direction, understanding yourself and engaging others, delivering results through others and leading in an agile way.

The closing event, hosted by Dr Simon Hayward, of Cirrus, our partners on this programme, saw them discuss and share plans on how they will apply in their role the learning gained on the programme, and to plan for how they will further develop their leadership capabilities.

This was followed by an event for the second cohort of 130 managers, opened by our President and Vice-Chancellor Nancy Rothwell, who talked about how we want to better develop and support leaders across the University.

ILP represents a major investment in developing the capabilities of our leaders. It forms part of a fully revised management and leadership suite of programmes, which also includes Leading at Manchester and Managing at Manchester, along with revised and improved e-learning, and coaching and mentoring resources.
