Advice for users of GlobalProtect on iPhone or iPad - updated

17 Sep 2018

iPhone and iPad users who use GlobalProtect will need to upgrade to version 5

Update (Thursday 20 September)

The previous version of GlobalProtect is incompatible with version 12 of iOS - the iPhone and iPad Operating System. If you actively use GlobalProtect on your iPhone or iPad, you will need to upgrade it. In addition to the message below, version 5 is now available.

As before, this does not affect the Duo Mobile app for iOS or Android, Duo key fobs or GlobalProtect VPN for Windows, macOS or Android.

Original message (Monday 17 September)

If you use the GlobalProtect VPN on iPhone or iPad, we advise you not to upgrade to iOS 12 yet.

Version 12 of iOS - the iPhone and iPad Operating System - is scheduled for release today, 17 September. We have been advised by the vendors of GlobalProtect that the current version is not yet compatible with iOS 12, so they are advising people who actively use GlobalProtect on iOS to avoid upgrading to iOS 12, until they have released GlobalProtect version 5. As of yet, no release date has been announced for the app.

Important notes

  • This issue does not affect the Duo Mobile app for iOS or Android, Duo key fobs or GlobalProtect VPN for Windows, macOS or Android.
  • You will still be able to use Duo on any system for 2-factor authentication to your PC or Apple Mac as normal.
  • You are only affected if you have installed the GlobalProtect VPN app on your iPhone or iPad.
  • You do not need to use GlobalProtect VPN to access your email on your iPhone or iPad.
