Wellbeing Brief - National Parks Week

23 Jul 2018

This is a great week to discover and learn about all the UK’s National Parks and take notice of the countryside on your doorstep

National Parks Week

There are fifteen National Parks in the UK, spanning the length and breadth of the country. Ten in England, three in Wales and two in Scotland. National Parks protect almost 10% of England, 20% of Wales and 8% of Scotland.

Our closest national parks are the Peak District and the Lake District.  The Peaks is the oldest National Park. Founded in 1951 because of its impressive gritstone edges, steep limestone dales, moorland, farmland (which covers about 90% of the park) and its caverns are famed for rare Blue John stone.

The Lake District National Park is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and is part of a special family of iconic places across the planet, such as the Taj Mahal, Machu Picchu, Easter Island and the Great Barrier Reef.

Visit the National Parks Week website for all the events available for you and your family and friends.
