Purple Wave 2017

The University’s Purple Wave is rising once again – sign up to ride it to glory at the Great Manchester Run!

This year’s event takes place on Sunday, 20 May and includes a 10k and ½ Marathon.

The University will once again be aiming to have its very own Purple Wave start time in the 10k, engaging over 3,000 runners. For the first time ever, there will also be the opportunity for people to enter free of charge, raise funds to support Undergraduate Access Scholarships and to take their next step and try the ½ marathon distance.

We will be supporting all runners through informative regular mailouts, hosting additional running groups and UoM specific 10k & ½ Marathon training plans.

Staff 10k offer

This year, Staff have the option to run the 10k for free should they commit to raising £100 for Undergraduate Access Scholarships at the University. Staff will need to register for these here instead of paying through the e-store. Find out more about Undergraduate Access Scholarships here.

Alternatively, the first 500 paid staff running spaces will be available for £30, down from the normal price of £38. Spaces are limited so register here now to avoid disappointment.

In addition all runners will receive a purple technical running t-shirt to be worn on the day (value of £19.99).

Half Marathon offer for all

For the first time ever, we will also be discounting ½ marathon places for all staff, student and alumni entries. These are available for £38.70 (down from £43) and will include a purple technical running t-shirt to be worn on the day (value of £19.99). Register here for your ½ marathon place by Friday, 9 March.

Please note that all ½ marathon runners will have the opportunity to run together but there will not be a UoM only purple wave like there will for the 10k.

Want to get involved in other ways? Volunteering or supporting

Whether you are running or not, there are loads of ways for you to help make the project happen and develop some fantastic skills. From supporting as a run leader through to helping on event day, we need your help! To find out more and sign up to volunteering, register with the Sports Volunteer Scheme here.

If running isn’t for you but you want to support, we will be having a UoM-branded supporters’ point on Chester Road. More details will be coming out soon through the website, but come down and help support the purple wave to the finish line!
