Nominations open for Making a Difference Awards 2018

04 Dec 2017

Do you or someone you know deserve recognition for the difference you are making?

Making a Difference Awards

Now in their fourth year, our annual Making a Difference Awards for social responsibility are now open to receive entries, with a closing date of 22 January 2018. The awards recognise and celebrate the many different types of social responsibility achievements of University staff, students, alumni and partners in our local communities.

Supporting young people who have limited access to a formal education due to conflict and poverty; developing a new approach to improve autism symptoms and behaviour in pre-school children and raising awareness of homelessness in Manchester are just a few of the previous winners of a Making a Difference Award.

The awards cover a wide range of contributions to the University’s social responsibility strategy, with categories including sustainability, community and public engagement, widening participation, social enterprise, responsible processes and equality and diversity.

Previous winners and highly commended recipients state how receiving a Making a Difference Award has helped their raise awareness of the projects they are so passionate about and highlighted the impact of their work, as well as providing well-deserved recognition.

The awards will culminate in a high profile awards ceremony, hosted by the President and Vice-Chancellor in May 2018. This event raises awareness of the many ways individuals and teams across the University make a real difference to the social and environmental wellbeing of our communities and wider society.

James Thompson, Vice-President for Social Responsibility said: “I would encourage anyone who is making a positive contribution to society to enter our Making a Difference Awards for social responsibility. The Awards will highlight the significant impact your work is having on society and provide a platform to showcase the commitment of our staff, students, alumni and external partners.”
