05 May 2017

Senior Chinese hospital leaders have visited the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health to learn about mental health provision, policy and practice in the UK and our research activity at the University.

Chinese hospital leaders meet University staff

Chinese hospital leaders from 13 provinces in China met with staff from across the School of Health Sciences and Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Trust. Delegates heard from a number of specialists about current and emerging approaches to mental health research and service provision, including Public Mental Health, tele-health/ e-health and the management of psychosis from both psychological and pharmacological perspectives. They also learned about how the NHS works with third sector organisations such as BlueSci (Trafford) and Six Degrees (Salford) to provide more integrated care.

Dr Dawn Edge, Senior Lecturer and University Academic Lead for Equality, Diversity & in the Division of Psychology & Mental Health, who coordinated the visit said:

“It has been a privilege to host this high profile group of delegates. They could have gone anywhere in the UK but chose to come to Manchester, demonstrating the high status of the cutting edge, international mental health research being undertaken at Manchester. This visit provided an excellent opportunity to share knowledge and expertise with our Chinese colleagues and opens the possibility for future long-term collaborations.”
