The University of Manchester Magazine online now

02 Mar 2017

Read all about the revolutionary spirit that defines our University in Issue 5

The University of Manchester Magazine

The University magazine’s latest edition is out now – both online and on magazine stands around campus.

The University of Manchester Magazine is an expression of the spirit of exploration, discovery and innovation that defines our University, celebrating the achievements of our staff and students past and present, and inspiring stakeholders around the world to make us a partner in their ambitions.

The digital design facilitates that – the magazine is not only easy to access across all devices, its stories are easy to share and so reach a global audience. Richer content will be added, beyond film and audio to animation and interactive features, making it even more engaging, attractive and a ‘must read’.

In the fifth edition we meet our inspiring Equity and Merit Scholars, who have made a huge difference to their communities thanks to a programme founded ten years ago by then President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Alan Gilbert, to assist talented but economically disadvantaged students from some of the world’s poorest countries.

We also feature the University’s innovation, demonstrating the spirit of doing things differently in true Manchester fashion, and an award-winning University project that is seeking to ensure our urban communities become age friendly while transforming our older generation into researchers with impact.

And Dr Andrew Hosty – chosen to head up Manchester’s new Henry Royce Institute – tells how he will turn advanced materials science into global solutions and thrust it to the fore of the national economy.
