Delays in non-standard PC and laptop orders

08 Feb 2017

Bespoke orders, including those for Apple products are currently taking over a month to arrive; whereas standard kit from the University's stock can be with you in just a matter of days.

Our IT Services team have a turnaround of 3 working days for new PC and laptop orders, which are supplied from our University’s available stock and come complete with the standard University set-up; however orders for bespoke desktop PCs or laptops (including Apple products) can take upwards of a month to arrive.

This is due to several factors concerning the sourcing of non-standard equipment from our University’s suppliers (as governed through the National HE Procurement Consortium) as well as the additional time needed to test and set up bespoke equipment once it arrives on campus. In the case of Apple products specifically, since Apple’s updating of the MacBook Pro range at the end of October 2016, there has been a serious shortage of stock of these items from Apple across all suppliers which has caused delays in delivery.

Ordering equipment from our in-house stock wherever possible is always recommended. All of our University applications have already been fully tested on these machines, giving you the confidence that they will work straight away. The best prices for these PCs and laptops have also been negotiated, so you can be sure you're getting the best deal.
