Career journeys begin for FSE's Business Administration Apprentices

23 Sep 2016

Over the last two weeks the Faculty has said thank you and good luck to the nine Business Administration Apprentices who spent a year working across different areas of FSE

2016-17 apprentices

The 2015/16 apprentices are now all embarking on their chosen career paths. Seven out of nine have secured full-time employment at the University, Ruqaiyah has started an agency contract within the School of Computer Science and Aaron is using the skills and experience he gained to expand his business within the music industry.

Olivia Marsh, one of the seven apprentices now working here full-time, commented: “During my placement I learnt many new skills which increased my confidence and opened the door to new opportunities for me.

“Before the placement I was working night shifts at a local food factory. The apprentice programme fast-tracked my development and I am very happy that I was appointed as the Centre Administrative Assistant within the BP-ICAM team.”

Adrian Parker, Director of Operations at the Dalton Nuclear Institute and lead for FSE’s Business Administration Apprentice programme, said: “I am delighted with the progress this group of young people have made during their year with us. Our apprentices have played integral roles within teams across FSE; bringing enthusiasm, initiative and fresh perspectives.

“It has also meant FSE are widening access to employment, creating new opportunities to learn and develop and supporting the development of a skilled and diverse workforce.”

FSE is also welcoming their new intake of 11 apprentices (pictured). As per the last two programmes, each apprentice will undertake two sixth-month placements during the year-long scheme. This year they have also expanded the programme to include a Social Media and Digital Marketing Apprentice who will work with the Communications and Marketing team for the whole year.

The Faculty also looks forward to welcoming another intake of Specialist Technical Apprentices in the coming weeks who will take up lab technician and workshop roles.
