University Capital Programme

21 Sep 2016

In her weekly update last week, the President and Vice-Chancellor mentioned that plans were being developed for delivering a sustainable financial position which will allow the University to make the necessary investments to achieve our Manchester 2020 ambitions

The President went on to say  that significant changes and some difficult choices will need to be made and, it is in this context, that there will be a pause on some parts of the University’s capital programme, specifically the Main Library Redevelopment and some parts of Coupland 3.

The Main Library Redevelopment will be paused until summer 2017 when the programme will be reconsidered.  In Coupland 3, essential long term maintenance works will be completed and the accommodation for the School of Dentistry will be progressed to allow those staff in temporary accommodation to move back in to the building in 2018, but other work will be paused.

The University remains committed to delivering these developments which form part of our wider Campus Masterplan to invest in world-class facilities for staff and students.  Other approved major capital projects will progress as planned.

Further updates will be provided to the University community and those impacted directly by these changes will also be kept informed at a local level.
