Take Me Back to Manchester Workshop

08 Jul 2016

Hear how artist Oliver East followed the route of Maharajah the elephant's 1872 walk from Edinburgh to Manchester

In 1872, Maharajah, an Asian Elephant, walked from Edinburgh to his new home in Belle Vue Zoo with his keeper Lorenzo Lawrence. Oliver East, a Manchester-based artist, walked the same route in April 2016, as inspiration for a full-length comic. ‘Take me back to Manchester’ includes a series of illustrations by Oliver, combining historical events with his own reflections on the journey, exhibited around the mounted skeleton of Maharajah.

Join Oliver on Sunday, 16 July (2-4pm) for this afternoon insight into the process of creating Take Me Back to Manchester. The afternoon will start with a talk by Oliver, followed by an opportunity to get creative with your own drawings and imagination.

Adult event - free.
