Take the Walk of Life at Manchester Museum

23 Jun 2016

Play ancient Indian game as part of art installation by artists Thakral and Tagra

Walk of Life

Manchester Museum is hosting art installation ‘Walk of Life’ by artists Thakral and Tagra as part of its Climate Control season – and needs you to play your part.

The installation explores issues of water conservation – a key issue in our world today – built upon an ancient Indian game called Ganjifa.

Originally played with a set of 120 cards, it depicts Dushavatar, the ten earthly incarnations of the Hindugod Vishnu. These ten incarnations can also be considered as the evolution of mankind. The game is played in the kali yuga, the last of the four ages of the life of the world – the most evil and decadent of all ages.

Based on the idea of water conservation and consumption, Walk of Life is a journey through the kali yuga dealing with current issues.

The event takes place on Friday, 24 June with two free sessions, 1-2pm and 3-4pm.
