Cliona Kirwan takes on Lakeland Marathon for Prevent Breast Cancer

A University researcher has run the gruelling Lakeland Marathon to raise money for the cancer charity that funds her work.

Cliona Kirwan took on the challenge while working up to 60 hours a week to raise money for Prevent Breast Cancer.

Cliona leads a group of scientists studying how the blood clotting system may help breast cancer grow and spread at Manchester Cancer Research Centre. This could lead to new ways of detecting or monitoring breast cancer, or even lead to new treatments.

She is also part of the consultant breast surgery team at University Hospital of South Manchester (UHSM) and a University alumnus.

The Lakeland Marathon, which took place in the heart of the Peak District on Sunday, 5 June, is one of the most gruelling marathons you could take on.
