Post-doc student Tom Flint is “running/swimming/cycling/crying” in a tough fundraising challenge for the charity Macmillan cancer support.

Tom, a former PhD student and current postdoc with Professor Mike Smith in School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering, is doing an ironman 70.3 triathlon in June – and has set himself a £2,000 fundraising target.

He explained: “Cancer affects loads of people. I'm sure if you're reading this you have been affected in some way. So I'm going to force myself round this course, bearing in mind I have the buoyancy of a brick, to try and raise some money for Macmillan cancer support because they do such a brilliant job.”
