Centre for New Writing co-director wins Michael Hartnett Poetry Award

Centre for New Writing co-director John McAuliffe has been announced as joint winner of the Michael Hartnett Poetry Award 2016, alongside Doireann Ní Ghríofa, for his collection The Way In (Gallery Press 2015).

The prestigious award will be presented on the opening night of Eigse Michael Hartnett, the literary and arts festival which runs every April in Newcastle West, Co Limerick and which takes place this year from 14-16 April 2016.

John, who will read from his collection at the awards ceremony, said of the award:

“It's both a confirmation and a great encouragement to receive the award, especially since I've been reading and thinking and talking about Michael Hartnett's poems, the lyrics, the narratives, the ballads, for as long as I've been writing”.
