01 Apr 2016

University of Manchester among top ten universities in the world to study nursing by the QS World University Rankings 2016

The School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work is placed at number eight on the list for the subject area of nursing and is one of only two UK universities to feature in the top ten with Kings College London taking sixth place. The University of Pennsylvania claims the top ranking out of the top 100 list that includes universities from 19 difference countries. With 20 of its universities in the top 100, the US has the most rankings, while the UK has 12.

The QS World University Rankings for nursing were based on the expert opinion of thousands of academics and employers, alongside analysis of 247,910 nursing research papers.

School Head, Professor Dame Nicky Cullum said: “This is the first time nursing as a subject has featured in the QS rankings and our top 10 listing is testament to the hard work of our staff over many years, and their commitment to excellence in both teaching and research.  We pride ourselves on preparing nurses and midwives who make a fantastic contribution to health care and on conducting excellent research that is relevant and has impact.”
