Urban sketcher documents a year in the life of research centre

30 Mar 2016

Lynne Chapman is artist in residence at The Morgan Centre for Research into Everyday Lives, based in Sociology

Urban sketcher's work

Lynne is documenting a year in the life of The Morgan Centre as it celebrates its 10th anniversary, sketching everything from our offices on campus, to our fieldwork in homes and even the wilds of the Calder Valley.

Another part of the project is experimenting with using sketching as an element of social research. Sociologists often use numbers and words to understand how society works, and some use visual methods such as photography. Lynne has been adding sketching to our ongoing research projects and Morgan Centre researchers are themselves experimenting with sketching.

The project is funded by a Leverhulme Trust artist in residence grant.
