Colleagues from across the PSS raised £584 for Sport Relief when they competed in a range of team activities in the grand setting of Whitworth Hall.

The competition was devised and hosted by the Directorate of Estates and Facilities, which entered nine teams of six people. Another nine teams were made up of colleagues from the Faculty of Humanities and Medical and Human Sciences, Graduate Education, Social Responsibility, General Counsel, Development and Alumni Relations, Library and Residential Services.

Each team paid £25 to compete in six activities – football, netball, corn hole, hoopla, golf putting and boules. Others paid £1 or more to come along and cheer, motivate, shout and heckle!

The winning team were the PSS All-Stars from Social Responsibility and the Office of the General Counsel – Sandra Milne, Julia Wentlandova, Patrick Johnson, Julian Skyrme and James Hopkins – with a final score of 1800.

They received their medals and trophies from Registrar Will Spinks.

Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities Kenny Nolan said: “The idea was a way of raising money for a good cause as well as bringing together a variety of colleagues from across PSS.

“Our Directors Office host some kind of fundraising every year. For Children in Need we host an annual bake sale in our office, which gets turned into ‘Pudsey’s Patisserie’ for the day and this gets bigger every year. We have previously had a ‘Drench the Director’ event for Comic Relief, where me, Diana Hampson and Steve Jordan willingly had wet sponges thrown at us. Diana has taken part in the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise money for a charity close to her heart, Reverse Rett, which also resulted in me and Alison Shedlock being covered in custard!”
