University will host online small business debate at 2pm today

04 Dec 2015

On Friday, 4 December at 2pm, entrepreneurial alumni from the University are to take part in a live YouTube debate, sharing their experiences of running a small business

The discussion takes place on the eve of Small Business Saturday, an annual event designed to encourage shoppers to visit independent businesses on Saturday, 5 December.

The event will discuss a variety of topics, including the role of small businesses within the UK economy, and will be asking alumni, many of whom have gone on to start their own company, about their experiences of setting up and managing a small business.

You can watch the event here from 2pm:

Speakers in the debate include Sian Astley, owner of design consultancy Morgeous, and Sarah Giblin (pictured), founder of Riut, a business launched on crowd-funding site Kickstarter. Martin Henery, Enterprise Academic Lecturer at the University, will also feature, discussing social enterprises and sustainability. Other participants in the debate include Kate Day, Director of Manchester Craft and Design Centre, and George Konsta, Founder of Manchester Social Entrepreneurs.

Tom Mason, Social Media Coordinator in the Division of Communications and Marketing, and organiser of the debate, said: “I am delighted that we have the opportunity to hear from a number of alumni from the business community. I hope that viewers will be able to learn more about the work that goes into starting a small business, as well as be inspired by stories from our alumni.”
