Research Strategy refreshed

04 Dec 2015

The University has refreshed its Research Strategy, and added a new element in the form of a Statement of Research Expectations

Following extensive consultation with Faculties, a refreshed version of the University’s Research Strategy has been approved by Senate. The accompanying Statement of Research Expectations aims to provide clarity on the expectations of our academic staff whose duties include research and of the support they will require.

Our research success is based on our people, and encouraging and supporting our staff to reach their full potential is vital in achieving our objectives. In setting out what we expect, we will be building on the vast amount of internationally excellent research which is already undertaken at the University. The Statement describes how we expect staff to contribute to the University’s strategic aims in a range of areas, and equally what assistance staff can expect from the institution.

The Statement indicates the level at which people working at the University should be advancing knowledge through their research but also emphasises our mutual collegial obligations and the standards of integrity that we must observe. It recognises the importance of achieving impacts beyond academia and supporting the next generation through high quality doctoral supervision. Plans to ensure that we meet these expectations will be set at Faculty and School level, guided by the Strategy.

We also recognise that staff contribute in a number of other ways to the health and vibrancy of the University and in particular through excellent teaching. The Statement of Research Expectations deals only with the contribution through research.
