Ibrahim Olabi named Humanities Postgraduate Taught Student of the Year

Honour for student who set up and runs assistance programme for Syrian people
Ibrahim Olabi has been named the Faculty of Humanities Postgraduate Taught Student of the Year in the University’s Distinguished Achievement Awards.
Ibrahim, who has just completed a Security and International Law LLM in the School of Law, won the award for his outstanding work with the Syrian Legal Development Programme (SLDP), which he founded as an undergraduate student in 2013.
The SLDP is a non-aligned, non- governmental organisation working in non-state controlled areas of Syria. The team consists of researchers, lawyers, on-the-ground trainers and human rights advocates. With the mandate to promote human rights, the rule of law and minimise the negative humanitarian consequences of the Syrian conflict, it formulates a number of educational programmes focused mainly on international law to help the Syrian people set the foundations for a future Syria.
Ibrahim has continued to work with the organisation during his postgraduate studies, during which time he worked with partners such as the United Nations, Amnesty International, the Red Cross and Global Child Protection Group. He also helped train Non-Governmental Organisations working in Syria and disseminate information within the nation.
Last year Ibrahim was awarded Undergraduate of the Year for the Faculty of Humanities for his work in Syria.
He will be presented with the award on Tuesday, 15 December at his graduation ceremony.
