Combating cancer at The Christie: how our Staff Survey donation will help

26 Aug 2015

Last week, Registrar, Secretary and Chief Operating Officer Will Spinks visited The Christie Charity to find out how they will use the donation of £2,084 raised by our staff through completing the Staff Survey

Howard Newhall and Will Spinks

When Will Spinks visited The Christie on 18 August, he met Community Fundraising Officer, Howard Newhall, who thanked him for the University's donation and took him on a tour of the hospital, pointing out the many facilities previously funded by the charity.

Like the majority of donations which The Christie Charity receives, the University’s gift of £2,084 has been allocated to the Cancer Appeal Fund, which supports areas of greatest need in the hospital.

This is the second time that The Christie has benefitted from the Staff Survey donations: in May 2013, it received a cheque for £2,037, which went towards the More Tomorrows campaign set up to raise funds to build the new Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC).

Whether our donation goes towards building a new unit, allowing The Christie’s scientists to undertake new research or clinical trials, funding vital new equipment, supporting their volunteer service, or ensuring their gardens are a beautiful and tranquil haven for patients and visitors, we can be sure that The Christie is a very worthy recipient.
