Rainbow Christian Centre is fundraising for a day trip

13 Mar 2015

Self-funded local charity Rainbow is planning to take local people on a ‘Big Church Day Out’ event this year

Rainbow is planning to take children/families/food bank users/homeless people on a once-in-a-lifetime day trip to a large all-inclusive family Christian festival in Brighton on 23 May. The trip will be free of charge on a first come, first served basis for everyone who cannot afford the cost (more than 70%). The final costs are expected to be at least £2500 to take a coachload of daytrippers plus food to this event.

The Rainbow Christian Centre was opened in 2003 by Lenox Green, who works in the School of Mathematics, and his wife Heather. It aims to prevent drug addiction and the associated behaviour that led to it. Available 24 hours a day, their projects include a gym for adults, youth groups, food handouts, Saturday social events, prison visiting, court appearances, family liaison and advice on housing, benefits, education, apprenticeships and debt. Lenox has received one of the University’s Social Responsibility and Volunteer of the Year Awards for his work and also been named as a Manchester Champion by the City of Manchester.
