Make a child eggstra happy this Easter

23 Mar 2015

Wood Street Mission are helping local families in need to give chocolate eggs to their children this Easter

Easter eggs

Easter is fast approaching and the Wood Steet Mission is trying to help local families in need to provide Easter eggs for their children this year.

How you can help

Give Easter eggs:

Wood Street Mission aims to give each child a couple of Easter eggs (a mixture of small and large) so any donations would be greatly appreciated.

Please don’t buy expensive eggs as we do not host any raffles and it is hard to give one luxurious egg to one child then a supermarket egg to the next.

Give non-perishable food:

Wood Street Mission will also give each family a food hamper to help them through the extended school holidays. In many cases their children would normally be receiving free school meals so these holidays can add extra food costs for the families who are already struggling.

Any contributions of non-perishable foods (with an expiry date of no earlier than 30 April 2015) would be welcome as we pack the hamper with a range of everyday items such as tins of meat, fish, vegetables or soups, packets of pasta, rice and cereals and treats such as pudding, sauces or biscuits.

Give cash/cheques:

Any financial contributions towards the costs of running this annual project will be very welcome.

Collection arrangements

As in previous years, Wood Street Mission will distribute Easter eggs and food hampers to families before the Easter school holidays.

You can arrange for your Easter eggs to be collected from across the University, by contacting Muriel Shingler or Rose Underwood (see contact details below).

This year's closing date for receipt of Easter eggs from the University is Friday, 27 March, when the Wood Street Mission van will collect them from the Sackville Street Building (Stores).

In order to spread the delivery of Easter eggs and other donations, the Wood Street Mission van will also come to campus on Friday, 20 March, so if your collection has finished by that date, please let Muriel or Rose know.
