Turnitin will be unavailable from 3pm to 7pm on Saturday, 7 March and Blackboard from 1am to 5am on Sunday, 8 March

Turnitin

What is affected?

Submission of work via Turnitin.  Students should not try to submit during the maintenance period.

What is happening?

Turnitin will be unavailable between 3pm and 7pm on Saturday 7 March for scheduled maintenance.

An announcement will appear within Turnitin to remind users that it will be unavailable for this scheduled maintenance.

What do you need to do?

If you have any students due to submit on this date, you are advised to modify assignment due dates/times so that they fall either before or several hours after the scheduled maintenance window.  Please advise students accordingly.

A message will be also added to the communications portal in Blackboard.

Blackboard

Who is affected?

Staff and students.

What is happening?

An important security fix is being applied to the underlying operating system of our Blackboard environment between the hours of 1am and 5am GMT on Sunday 8 March 2015.

What does this mean for you?

Blackboard will be unavailable for both staff and students for a maximum of one hour during this time. Due to the way the security fix is applied, we are unable to specify the exact time when Blackboard will be unavailable. We are therefore advising that Blackboard should be considered ‘at risk’ during the period between 1am and 5am GMT on Sunday 8 March.

Staff or students currently logged in to Blackboard whilst the maintenance takes place will eventually be logged out. Staff or students who try to login to Blackboard whilst the system is unavailable will be presented with a splash screen informing them of the maintenance.

What do you need to do?

Please consider any online activities you may have asked your students to do and take this downtime into account, and advise students accordingly. You may wish to adjust submission deadlines. (As advised yesterday, Turnitin is unavailable between 3pm and7pm GMT on Saturday 7 March.)

A message will be added to the communications portal in Blackboard.
