University ‘foodies’ to make friends – and mobilize experts

Food

Uomfoodies, the University’s educational and social food network for staff and students, are helping organise monthly events to bring together Manchester’s huge foodie community.

This follows a highly successful get together with fellow foodies from Manchester Metropolitan University, Salford University and others from around the city at the 8th Day café.

Uomfoodies organiser Abilgail Saffer said: “We had an amazing time meeting everyone who turned up! The food network in Manchester is huge. Everyone was buzzing and had great ideas, as well as contacts.

“We want to break barriers and join forces with the other universities in Manchester, so it was great to hear what they have been up to as well. The University’s alumni and enterprise team are also being very supportive of this venture.”

They plan to run this event on a monthly basis and invite people to talk or to do a presentation about their business, work, volunteering or research, in a bid to create a network of experts in the food and sustainability industries to call on for advice and guidance.
