School of MACE trials QR codes for attendance monitoring

The School of MACE recently carried out an interesting trial using QR - Quick Read codes, for monitoring student attendance in lectures

Instead of asking students to sign-in o a paper list, the system devised by MACE's Academic Project Support Manager Mike Smith uses an iPad and an app available from the iTunes store. Students 'scan-in' their QR code and the app registers their attendance and then outputs a spreadsheet report readable in Excel.

The MSc Management of Projects group (250 students) was identified as a pilot group and each student was given a unique QR Code to store on their mobile phones and also on a small card.
