Guy Garvey’s recent visit to The John Rylands Library has certainly been sparking up interest. Guy, lead singer and lyricist of Local band Elbow, visited John Rylands amongst other Manchester libraries including The Portico Library and Central Library. The recordings form the basis for his BBC Radio 6 show Guy Garvey’s Finest Hour – Library Special, which is a part of 6 Music Celebrates Libraries.

During Guy’s visit, Julianne Simpson and Caroline Checkley-Scott presented the Gutenberg Bible; a 1,500 year old papyrus fragment; a concrete poetry book, and aptly, a Charles Wesley hymn book including the original lyrics of ‘Hark! How all the welkin rings!’, more commonly known as ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’.

Guy Garvey’s Finest Hour – Library Special will be broadcast on BBC Radio 6 on Sunday, 16 November at 2pm:
