Our biggest and busiest Welcome Week yet

17 Sep 2014

Thanks to everyone helping our new students settle in

Welcome Week 2014 latest

Welcome Week 2014 has been the University’s biggest and busiest one yet with more students attending events than ever.

Last year the Start of Year Fair attracted 6,500 people in two days. The fair’s first day this year attracted 4,800!

With more than 300 societies on campus ranging from Knitsoc and Chess, to Dodgeball and Bhangra, there’s something for everyone to sign up for. Other events include the Sports Fair, quizzes, speed meetings and our renowned Distinguished Lectures – popular talks on subjects from dinosaur hunting to civil rights that are sure to inspire our new students.

Events to help them get to know their new home include City Bus Tours, Campus Tours and library and museum tours, while international students can attend additional Orientation events.

And should anyone need help navigating the feast that’s on offer, there have been 200 Student Ambassadors and many other student mentors around campus to answer any questions they might have, no matter how big or small—and of course University staff wearing their Ask Me badges.

The fresh start fun goes on until Saturday (20 September).

Student Communications and Marketing Manager Pete Morris said: “It’s great to see more UK and international students attending joint events and the Schools have been doing really well with academic inductions.

“We want to say a big thank you to everyone involved

“Do continue to help, be friendly, wear your Ask me badges.”
