Arts Council England has announced details of its investment plans for the next three years including funding for its Major Partner Museums.

The Manchester Partnership, the consortium of Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester Museum and the Whitworth Art Gallery, were successful in being awarded £4,792,977 for 2015-18 or £1,597,659 per year from a total award for Major Partner Museums of £65million.

The Manchester Partnership bid for 2015-18 develops the existing programme of exhibition, collections and learning programmes with a focus on international work, new collections management and access initiatives and targeted work with children and young people.

In reviewing the Manchester Partnership bid, the Arts Council said:

“The programme of work you set out in your application makes a significant contribution to the goals of Great Art and Culture for Everyone”.

The assessor also commented on the Museum’s outstanding approach to increasing participation, diversity and resilience.

Director of Manchester Museum, Nick Merriman said: “In the context of continued public funding cuts this is an excellent settlement and secures much of our engagement and collections work for the next few years. We are delighted that in assessing our application, our approach to engaging the public was judged to be outstanding.”
