Free event on Wednesday, 11 December (6pm) at Manchester Business School

Managing large-scale infrastructure: Lessons from the private sector

Manchester Business School’s Centre for Infrastructure Development is hosting a presentation by leading US expert in the delivery of complex projects - Ed Merrow - as part of its Thought Leaders in Infrastructure series.

Ed will draw on his decades of research and experience in infrastructure to talk about the lessons from the oil and gas industry for managing infrastructure projects in the public sector.

Ed is the founder and CEO of Independent Project Analysis, Inc. - one of the world's leading companies evaluating investment projects in oil, chemical, pharmaceutical, and major mineral companies, and benchmarking their cost, schedules, safety and operational performance - and was previously the director of the Energy Policy Program at the RAND Corporation. He therefore has considerable expertise on what makes such projects successful.

His studies are motivated by the need to understand the complex behaviours of large engineering projects and to identify the drivers of their success and failure. His years of analysis and research have culminated in the publication of his latest book, Industrial Megaprojects—Concepts, Strategies, and Practices for Success (Wiley 2011).
