Urgent downtime for shared network areas this evening (21 November)

21 Nov 2013

Network access to be affected between 7pm and 12.30am.

IT Services have found a bug in the software which connects the University servers to the Storage Area Network (SAN). These are the systems that support shared area access. To enable this being fixed,  a software patch needs to be applied this evening so that the full remedial work can be completed tomorrow.

What will happen?

  • Between the hours of 7pm and 12.30am this evening a total of 10 servers will have the patch applied, in sequence.
  • Each server will have a downtime of 25 minutes.

What will this affect?

  • This means that as each shared area is patched, it will be unavailable for you to access for a 25 minute period.

What is not affected?

  • P: drive access.
  • Login to email.
  • Login to your workstation.
  • Remote desktop connections (VPN).
