New Teaching and Learning advocacy group is formed

20 Sep 2021

The Library is known around the University and the world for its effective and inclusive approach to teaching and learning.

This October we will further strengthen our capabilities in this area with the formation of a new group and connected community of practice. The “Teaching and Learning advocacy group” (TaLa) will have representation from across the Library, wherever teaching activity of any kind occurs. It will ensure that teaching and learning at the Library utilises the depth of expertise and experience of its staff and the breadth of its collections, both special and modern. It will also be involved in our work to widen access and use of our collections via teaching activities and resources.

The first meeting of the advocacy group will be at the end of October, and it is anticipated that membership will begin with a core group that seeks to represent any area that currently delivers teaching, whether formal or informal. If you or your team deliver teaching and you are interested in being represented, please reach out to Jennie Blake. If you are wondering whether you “should” reach out, please do!

“The work of this group and our community of practice will ensure that our world-leading collections and teaching remain innovative, inspire current students and researchers and shape future academics. It will feed directly into our wider strategic goals as set out in Imagine2030 and further establish the Library’s place as a centre for excellence in teaching at the University of Manchester.” Prof Christopher Pressler

The community of practice will be open to everyone who teaches, supports teaching or is involved in developing teaching and learning materials. It will enable us to share expertise, support the piloting of new teaching methods, materials and technology and ensure that we showcase the strength of Library teaching and learning initiatives. There is no limit to membership; all are welcome. To receive an invite to the launch event and be added to the Teams space, please contact Jennie Blake.

The advocacy group will also require support with organising meetings and note-taking; if you are interested in this opportunity, please reach out to Jennie
