Digital inclusion

It's crucial for everyone involved in creating digital content at the University to understand the importance of digital inclusion and web accessibility . Around 22% of the UK population has a disability. Creating accessible digital content, including web page text, blog stories, videos, and PDF documents, is crucial to ensure that vital information is accessible to all.

Since 2018, accessibility regulations in the UK have made it a legal requirement for public sector websites and apps to meet specific accessibility standards. However, we believe that it’s more than just a legal requirement. It’s the right thing to do. We have a moral obligation to remove barriers and ensure that everyone can access our digital content.  This commitment to inclusivity is deeply engrained in our values and reflected in our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy.

In this section, you'll find all the information you need to gain basic skills or enhance your current expertise to make your content as inclusive as possible.

Upcoming drop-in sessions

We have organised a series of drop-in sessions to increase awareness of digital inclusion across the University and ensure that everyone who creates digital content in the University has the knowledge to create accessible digital communications. Please have a look at the dates below and join one of the planned sessions that is most convenient to you. Please note that all sessions are for 1 hour.

Please note no upcoming sessions are currently planned, but please check later for additional sessions that may be scheduled in the future.
