Fresh faces and new roles

15 Oct 2019

Our communications and marketing community has seen a few changes with new colleagues joining and others moving to new roles – and there’s a secondment opportunity.

In December Vicky Taylor-Plane will be joining the Division of Communications and Marketing from the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) as Corporate Campaigns Manager, leading on the delivery of the research beacons campaign and other brand-led marketing activities.

Maddie Smart joined Policy@Manchester at the end of August as Communications and Engagement Officer for the FSE, while Shakti Patel joined for a six-month secondment.  Shakti is on the Civil Service Fast Stream programme and has joined the team as part of that programme and to support the work of the officers across all three Faculties.

Hannah Murray is leaving the Policy@Manchester team to join the Humanities Research Communications Team, while Lynda McIntosh is joining the Division of Communications and Marketing on a three-day secondment from the Humanities Research Communications Team, to lead on REF communications at University level.

Still in the Faculty of Humanities, Emma Richmond is now Research Beacon Communications Manager as maternity cover for Laura Dawson and Bethany Pedder is the new Executive Assistant to Marianne Webb. Web Officer, Warren Gates has returned from secondment and Faculty Marketing Officer for Student Recruitment, Rakhi Sinha has returned from maternity leave.

In the Directorate of Student Experience (DSE), Amy Calderbank has started as a Student Communications and Marketing Officer on the current student side of the team, managing campaigns including Stellify and Six Ways to Wellbeing. Patrick Crich has moved to the pre-registration side of the team and will be working on conversion, including publications, e-newsletters and online communications.

A number of reporting line changes are also being worked through with staff in other central Professional Services communications roles in the Library and the Programme Management Office (PMO).  PMO Head of Engagement and Communications Kim Graakjaer, PMO Communications and Engagement Manager Michelle Sharples and Library Marketing and Communications Officer Caroline Boyd will have reporting lines into Sally Sykes.  The organisation charts will be updated soon to show how this works in practice.

Finally, there is the opportunity for a short-term secondment for the role of Research Beacon Communications Manager until Laura Dawson returns from maternity leave in April/May 2020.  If you are interested in this role, please let Marianne Webb know by Friday, 25 October. Expressions of interest will need to be accompanied by a copy of your CV and a covering letter.
