Claire Brown

Former trustee of CASE Europe and Director of External Relations, Marketing and Communications at the University of Liverpool, Claire Brown, has joined the University as our new Head of University Marketing.

At Liverpool, Claire led a number of initiatives including the merger of the UK and international recruitment teams and the introduction of the University’s first market research and customer insight team.

As Director of External Relations, Marketing and Communications, she led a team of over 180 colleagues engaged in student recruitment, widening participation, admissions, communications and public affairs, marketing, and development and alumni relations.

“There were a number of factors that attracted me to this role, including the University’s excellent global reputation, emphasis on social responsibility and contribution to the Greater Manchester region,” she said.

In addition, Rachael McGraw has taken up a new project role (on secondment) as Head of Engagement working with the Vice-President for Social Responsibility, Professor James Thompson, and the University's Senior Leadership Team.

Rachael, who was formerly Head of Communications in the Division of Communications and Marketing, will be leading on employee engagement and working with colleagues in Human Resources to determine the University’s engagement model, tools, resources and offer to employees and leaders.

Valerie Essien, formerly a Communications Manager at Marketing Manchester, has also joined us as our new International Campaigns Coordinator. Valerie has worked on a huge range of communications and marketing projects for a variety of companies and organisations, including our partners, on high-profile events such as South by South West (SXSW). Maree Perkins, formerly of The Student Room, the UK’s largest online student community, has also joined the Division of Communications and Marketing as Content Coordinator.

And there are other new starters. In the Faculty of Humanities, Elaine Ofori, Senior Marketing Officer; Lucy Gardner, Marketing Officer; Beth Piggott, Marketing Officer (PGR); Gerald Heneghan, Senior Digital Marketing Officer; Leonie Jackson, Digital Content Editor; Terri Lucas and Chris Peters, both Communications and Engagement Officers at Policy at Manchester, and Tanya Graham, Communications and Engagement Manager at Policy at Manchester. In the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE), Daniele Atkinson, Social Responsibility Manager, has returned from maternity leave and there’s a new Communications Intern, Ellie Welch.
