Delegates at the conference

Our communications and marketing community got together at our Conference 2018, in which our priorities for the next 18 months were revealed.

The new priorities will enable us to continue to support the Manchester 2020 vision in the medium term, while allowing new Director of Communications and Marketing, Sally Sykes, to set our direction beyond that.

There was a range of inspiring case studies and fascinating workshops from internal and external speakers, a review of the 2015-18 Communications and Marketing Plan – and a first opportunity to hear from Sally.

The Conference saw:

  • 130 delegates
  • six plenary sessions
  • eight breakout sessions
  • 20 speakers
  • and an amazing 1,500 minutes of activities and networking for communications and marketing professionals from across the University.

Feedback showed that 86% of delegates were quite likely or very likely to attend the Conference in the future and 90% said the organisation was good or very good.

Comments included: “The crisis communications session was the most powerful, interesting and moving presentation I've ever seen in relation to my work.”

Another colleague said: “Thank you for providing us with the opportunity to hear about the future vision and have the opportunity to meet colleagues from across the Uni. The web space supplied in advance was a really good resource to plan and prepare for the conference.”

And another said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to meet and engage with colleagues from different parts of UoM. More networking time/group activities would be great.”

Deputy Head of University Marketing, Andy Simmons, said: “The Conference ran very smoothly and it was great to see colleagues from across the University coming together to review progress and plan for the future.

“On behalf of everyone I’d like to thank our organiser, Web Marketing Coordinator, Milena Cimmarrusti-Davila, and everyone else who contributed to making the day such a success.”
